Maker Story: Drones Etc.

Maker Story: Drones Etc.

Everyone is now talking drones.  There was that Amazon moment on 60 Minutes. The Golden Globes has drones flying and filming overhead.  Facebook is using drones to provide Internet service to remote parts of the world.  And countless hobbyists are using drones for all manner of things.  So we’re very excited to share the story of Drones Etc. co-founder Jonathan Baird.  Drones Etc. is the most trusted online store for drones, and a top dealer for DJI, the manufacturer behind 70% of the world’s drones.

Tell us the story of how you got started.

My partner Shawn had a year to burn before his Medical Residency started so we decided to start a Drone company. We both loved the technology and had flown drones before. We knew that they were going to be a big part of people’s lives very soon and we wanted to be part of that growth. Soon enough the business grew to a point where Shawn decided to leave his Residency and we put our full force into the business.

My favorite product is the DJI Inspire 1. I love it because of it’s versatility. One person can control and fly it while the other person can control the camera on a 360 degree swivel. It also flies very fast and very steady. It’s definitely the best drone on the market.
